• Bluberi Gaming has signed a deal with WWE to develop a series of licensed slot games featuring WWE Superstars and Legends. Among those to be featured include John Cena, Triple H, Becky Lynch, Roman Reigns and Ronda Rousey, along with such Legends as Hulk Hogan, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels. The first WWE series of slot games is scheduled to hit casinos October 2020.

• HarperCollins Publishers said it has acquired world rights to Back, the first memoir authored by Tiger Woods. According to Woods, “This book is my definitive story. It’s in my words and expresses my thoughts. It describes how I feel and what’s happened in my life.” A publication date was not given.

• Turner Sports’ eLeague has signed a deal with tech solutions and services provider CDW to “create enhanced fan experiences across eLeague’s properties on TV, digital, social and in-arena.” The alliance also names CDW an “official arena partner” for eLeague and the Rocket League Championship Series. • San Manuel Casino, under the auspices of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, has signed a deal to become a Founding Partner for Allegiant Stadium, scheduled to open at the home of the Raiders for the 2020 NFL season when the franchise relocates from Oakland to Las Vegas.

• Halloween this year is Oct. 31, and retailers, marketers and consumers are ready for another season of trick-or-treat. Total spend on Halloween 2019 is expected to reach $8.8 billion according to the National Retail Federation, Washington, DC. Full story here.

LeBron, Uninterrupted Invest In Burgeoning High School Sports Social Media Site

Janaury 20, 2018: Mars Reel, a leading digital media provider of premium coverage of amateur athletes and teams with a focus on high school basketball, has gotten a big boost from the guys at the pro level.

The Los Angeles-based company has signed a deal with LeBron James and his Uninterrupted platform “to continue its growth and extend its brand into broader development, distribution and storytelling opportunities.”

James and partner Maverick Carter are also putting their money where their mouths are, investing $2.7 million into the site in what Mars Reel said was “part of an initial $4.7 million round of funding from influential investors.”

Other investors include musician/producer Nas, Steve Stoute (founder and CEO for Translation), Bruce Tuchman (former global chief of AMC, Sundance and MGM) and lead investor Robert Hisaoka,” according to Mars Reel.

Uninterrupted was founded in 2015 by James and Carter as an all-digital sports programming network.

Mars Reel was founded by Brandon and Bradley Deyo in 2010 in Maryland — where the brothers were raised — based on the strategy “that young people consume sports differently than adults.” Its target demo is 13-24.

Its content is delivered in short highlights on social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and SnapChat. Most have energetic music created in-house, although the addition of Nas could see more input from the professional category.

Mars Reel has nearly 35,000 subscribers on its YouTube channel, where its array of high school, college and other amateur sports videos had some 25 million unique views its first four years and 148 million unique views in 2017, according to the company.

“This partnership with Uninterrupted allows us to extend our content offering beyond highlights and clips and into broader storytelling within the high school sports sector,” Brandon Deyo said in a statement.

“As we build a premium high-school and amateur-sports network tailored specifically to the millennial fan base, we’re excited about this partnership and this latest round of investment that will help us take our content to the next level,” said Deyo.

According to Maverick, who is CEO for Uninterrupted, “Working with a millennial-focused content creator like Mars Reel is a perfect fit for Uninterrupted as we continue to connect with athletes on all levels and bring relevant content to the growing millennial sports fan base.

“They are creating sports content that reaches and resonates with young content consumers and brings the product to the platforms they use most. That’s important to us at Uninterrupted and is something we want to do more of as the digital media space and how people consume their sports continues to change,” said Maverick.
