Los Angeles NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS Sports Stars Align, Shine For Children's Hospital

April 4, 2011: The Los Angeles sports scene is full of stars, and four of them have banded together to help the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles introduce people to its new pediatric hospital building, scheduled to open on July 10.

Los Angeles Lakers forward and NBA All-Star Pau Gasol, former NHL Los Angeles Kings left wing and hockey Hall of Famer Luc Robitaille, Los Angeles Galaxy and U.S. National Team forward Landon Donovan and Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman James Loney all donated their time, energy and likenesses to a Where's Waldo-type online interactive game. The purpose of the game is to find each star athlete as he hides in various areas throughout the new and existing hospital while making people more aware of the $636 million, 317-bed facility.

The game has launched with “Where’s Pau Now?" The other three Los Angeles stars' games are scheduled to be unveiled through the end of August.

“The game was created as a fun and unique way to engage and introduce the community to our state-of-the-art pediatric hospital building that will open in July,” DeAnn Marshall, vp and CMO for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, said in a statement. “Participants will get sneak peeks into the new hospital building, learn about its cutting-edge technology, amenities and services and see how the new hospital specifically caters to children, adolescents and their families.”

The Children's Hospital Los Angeles pediatric hospital building is scheduled to open in July.In each series of the game. participants are given multiple choice options to guess the player’s location for the chance to accumulate points. Those with the highest point score at the end of the individual game series will be put into a drawing for prizes including autographed gear and game tickets.

According to Gasol, “Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has become a big part of my life recently and I have a great respect for the incredible work they do. I was thrilled to be part of this game and help promote the new hospital building. It is truly a state-of-the-art facility that is going to positively change the lives of so many children in need.”

“Where’s Pau Now” will be active now through May 5. The schedule after that, according to Children's Hospital, will be:
    •    “Look for Luc” featuring Luc Robitaille: May 7 – June 10
    •    “Locate Landon” featuring Landon Donovan: June 12 – July 16
    •    “Find James First” featuring James Loney: July 18 – August 20

“We greatly appreciate the generosity and continued support shown by Pau, Luc, Landon and James, as well as their respective teams,” Richard Cordova, President and CEO, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, said in a statement. “By donating time out of their very busy schedules, they’ve helped us bring this game to life and connect with the community during an incredibly important time in our history.”

“By donating time out of their schedules, they’ve helped us bring this game to life and connect with the community during an incredibly important time in our history.”

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles became the city’s first hospital for children when it opened the doors to a two-story home equipped with four beds and one volunteer doctor 110 years ago.

“Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is a very special place,” Robitaille said in a statement. “I’m honored to give back to a wonderful organization that gives so much to the community.” Added Donovan, "Since I've joined the Galaxy, I've had the opportunity to visit Children's Hospital Los Angeles many times. I am honored to be a part of all that they do to improve the lives of children in need."
