• The NHL has signed what it is calling a “ groundbreaking partnership” with the Billie Jean King Leadership Initiative, which will “support research, action, advocacy and collaboration with organizations that have a significant community impact.” Full story here.

• Dick Vitale, 80, has signed a contract extension with ESPN through the 2021-22 season, adding to a recent extension unveiled last May.

• Recently retired NBA star Tony Parker has been named president of NorthRock Sports, Artists and Entertainment, a division of Northrock Partners, a finance and lifestyle advisory firm that currently oversees $1.5 billion in assets, whose holdings include Golf Magazine, Golf.com and the Nicklaus Companies in partnership with golf legend Jack Nicklaus.

• The PGA Tour has signed a ten-year deal naming global consulting firm Korn Ferry title sponsor for the Korn Ferry Tour, replacing Web.com, which awards PGA Tour membership to the tour’s 50 leading players. The Los Angeles-based company also becomes the “official leadership development firm” for the PGA Tour.

• The WTA will premiere the NYJTL Bronx Open, Aug. 16-24, in the Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning in The Bronx, NY. The women’s tournament will take place the week before the U.S. Open in New York and offer $250,000 in prize money.

• SunTrust and BB&T financial firms said that Truist Financial would be the name of the company following their merger later this year. The name — “intended to give the bank a single, fresh identity” — could also become the new name for the home venue for the Atlanta Braves, now known as SunTrust Stadium.

• Pete Frates and Pat Quinn, co-founders of ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, have launched with The ALS Assn. the 5th anniversary of “Challenge Me” with a “new call to action to reignite the passion and generosity of the millions of people who dumped ice water on their heads in the summer of 2014.”

Rush Hour: Kia Motors Extends, Expands Official Automotive Alliance With NBA

October 17, 2017: The NBA has started the 2017-18 season with Kia NBA Tip-Off Week, so it is only fitting that Kia has signed a multi-year deal to remain the official automotive partner for the NBA, WNBA and NBA G-League, and also expand it alliance to other areas.

Kia has been a partner with the league since 2008.

Kia also has partnerships with 11 NBA teams as well as LeBron James, who appears in marketing for the Kia K900 luxury brand.

Financial team of the extended deal were not revealed.

“Kia has been deeply integrated into the year-round NBA experience since becoming a partner in 2008,” Kerry Tatlock, NBA svp-global partnership for the NBA, said in a statement. "We’re excited to continue to grow the partnership by building upon all of the engagement programs that connect Kia with the diverse fans across the league’s channels."

Under terms of the new alliance, Kia becomes an associate partner for the NBA Draft.

The automaker will remain title partner for such on-court platforms as Kia NBA Tip-Off, Kia NBA All-Star MVP and the Kia NBA Performance Awards: MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player and Sixth Man and Rookie of the Year.

In addition, Kia will remain title partner of the NBA’s monthly Performance Awards, recognizing the top player and rookie from each conference. The season-long #KiaWhoYaGot sweepstakes, which gives people an opportunity to predict the winner of key match-ups on NBA social channels, resumes during Kia NBA Tip-Off.

According to Saad Chehab, vp-marketing communications for Kia Motors America, "The partnership between the NBA and Kia has been pivotal in increasing brand and consumer awareness and an uptick in consideration of the Kia brand, and we are excited to extend our partnership and continue connecting with the league and its passionate fans.

"Both Kia and the NBA have a broad appeal across a large segment of the consumer public and through this partnership we hope to keep Kia top-of-mind among the confident, independent NBA fans and drive them, literally to Kia’s showrooms,” said Chehab.

Kia’s 11 NBA team partnerships include the Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers and Phoenix Suns.
