Michael Jordan Supports Chicago 2016 Bid With PSA

May 29, 2009: Michael Jordan is back on the air in Chicago, not playing basketball in the NBA playoffs but in two new PSAs for Chicago 2016. Jordan, who was a member of two gold medal teams, in 1984 and the 1992 Dream Team, appears in one of what will be several PSAs taken from short films that Chicago 2016 commissioned to showcase the city and its bid for the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In one PSA, as clips of Jordan in action play out, Jordan says, "I've had some tremendous memories during my profession basketball career. But the memory of standing as a representative of the United States at the Olympics is one of the proudest moments of my life." Jordan ends his spot by saying, "The Olympic spirit. It's alive in Chicago." A second PSA features Jordan with Paralympian April Holmes, who also endorses Nike's Jordan Brand division. Chicago is one of four cities bidding for the 2016 Summer Games, including Tokyo, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro. All four were recently visited by the International Olympic Committee's evaluation commission. The IOC will vote name the 2016 host city in October. “We thank the many Olympic and Paralympic athletes who contributed their time and stories to our new films, showing their support for our bid and reinforcing Chicago’s deep ties to the Olympic movement,” Patrick Ryan, chairman and CEO of Chicago 2016, said in a statement. “Having athletes like Michael and April appear in our PSAs reinforces the support we have from the athlete community while giving the people of Chicago a glimpse into how the Olympic Movement changed their lives.” Back to Home Page
