Intel Now Inside San Francisco 49ers Fan-Friendly, Tech-Savvy Levi's Stadium

December 18, 2013: Sports venues worldwide are seeking more and better ways to improve the in-stadium and in-arena experience for their fans.

Owners of the San Francisco 49ers are on a relentless drive to do just that by having the most tech-savvy stadium ever.

The lastest step in that process: The Niners have signed Intel to become a founding partner for Levi's Stadium, now under construction and scheduled to open for the 2014 NFL season.

A key part of the will see Levi's Stadium "integrate Intel solutions and products for client, server, embedded and security technologies."

Intel's multi-year deal begins in 2014. Financial details were not unveiled.

Levi's Stadium, located in Santa Clara's Silicon Valley region about 45 miles south of San Francisco, already lists among its nearly dozen founding partners such tech-related firms as SAP, Yahoo!, Violin Memory, Sunpower and Brocade.

“The vision for Levi’s Stadium has always been to create the ultimate fan experience through the use of innovative technology,” Gideon Yu, 49ers president and co-owner, said in a statement.

Other founding partners of the $1.2 billion stadium include naming rights holder Levi's, PepsiCo, Anheuser-Busch, investment firm BNY Mellon and NRG Energy.

In addition, Niners ownership has been working with official partner Sony Electronics to install visual and sound systems that include two massive scoreboards, one at each end of the stadium, that will be 48' x 142' and 48' x 200' feet respectively.

An LED display will wrap around the inner bowl of the stadium and run 1,650 feet.

The first event at Levi’s Stadium will see the MLS San Jose Earthquakes host the Seattle Sounders FC on Aug. 2, 2014.

Levi’s Stadium will host WrestleMania 31 on March 29, 2015. Super Bowl L is booked for February 2016.

Intel, which is headquartered within a few miles of the stadium, will have exclusive branding and naming rights to one of the pedestrian areas at the northwest corner of the venue, which will be named the Intel Plaza (shown in a artist's rendition courtesy of Intel). When the stadium opens, it will feature a fan experience zone where people can "connect and communicate using the latest products with Intel Inside."

The agreement also includes an integrated media package with TV, radio, hospitality assets and the "opportunity to host events at Levi’s Stadium with customers and strategic partners throughout the year."

“Intel is one of the most well-known brands in the world with a deep history in Silicon Valley and an impeccable reputation as a leader in technology and innovation,” Jed York, San Francisco 49ers CEO, said in a statement. “The vision for Levi’s Stadium has always been to provide an individually customized user experience through the use of innovative technology, aligning these two organizations perfectly.”

According to Deborah Conrad, CMO for Intel, "This is really a natural partnership between two iconic Bay Area organizations and we're excited to engage fans in entirely new ways. We look forward to working with the 49ers to make it a unique fan experience and highlight the technology and innovation inside Levi's Stadium.”
