With Winter Games Coming, Hilton Renews USOC Pact Though 2016 Summer Olympics

February 5, 2013: Hilton Hotels, which has been a marketing partner of the U.S. Olympic Committee since 2005, has since an extension of its alliance that would carry through the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The renewed pact, under which Hilton remains the official hotel sponsor of Team USA, comes with about one year to go until the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The company activates behind Hilton HHonors, the guest loyalty program for Hilton Worldwide’s ten distinct hotel brands,

Hilton HHonors also helps prepare athletes for "life beyond their athletic careers through the Team USA Athlete Career Program, which offers U.S. athletes jobs in their fields of interest while allowing them to continue their athletic training."

In addition to its Team USA sponsorship, Hilton HHonors is the official hotel partner of USA Gymnastics, USA Volleyball and the U.S. Figure Skating Team.

“Hilton HHonors is proud to extend our commitment to Team USA through 2016 not only because it’s a great cause, but because it aligns so closely with our founder’s vision: world peace through international travel and trade,” Jeff Diskin, evp-Hilton Worldwide, said in a statement. “As a long-standing supporter of the Olympic Movement, this is an opportunity to continue to provide our world-class hospitality to the athletes while training and competing, while further connecting our team members and guests to the Olympic spirit.”

Global partners of the USOC and the International Olympic Committee include Atos, Coca-Cola, Dow Chemical, General Electric, McDonald's, Omega, Panasonic, Procter & Gamble, Samsung and Visa.

Marketing partners of the USOC also include 24 Hour Fitness, BMW, British Petroleum, Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser), Chobani, The Hartford, Liberty Mutual, Nike and United Airlines.

According to Lisa Baird,  CMO for the USOC, “Hilton HHonors is a great partner to the USOC, and we are thrilled that its support of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes will continue through 2016. We truly appreciate the innovative commitment that Hilton HHonors makes to serving Team USA athletes, including its support of the Road to Sochi campaign and its promotion of the Olympic Movement throughout the quadrennial.”

The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics will run from Feb. 6-23, 2014. The Road to Sochi campaign is the USOC's one-year countdown to the Games.

Activation begins this week in partnership with the U.S. Biathlon Association, USA Curling and USA Luge, with 20 hours of competition across both NBC Sports Network and Universal Sports, Feb. 8-16.

"The Road to Sochi is about sharing the inspirational stories of our athletes with the American public ahead of the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games," said Baird. "Thanks to the tremendous Olympic efforts of NBCUniversal and other partners in the Road to Sochi program, like Hilton HHonors, Americans will get to know the 2014 U.S. Olympians and Paralympians better than ever before in the 12 months leading up to the Sochi Games."
