Mission Goes Hollywood, Signing Actress/Singer Hailee Steinfeld For New Line

By Barry Janoff

April 21, 2017: Since its inception in 2009, Mission (formerly Mission Athletecare) has been known as a performance apparel and accessories brand driven by endorsers who score in sports.

Now it has aligned with a young woman who has hit it big in film and music.

Mission Athlete’s roster of endorsers — who also are investors and part of the brand’s R&D team — include Serena Williams, Dwyane Wade, Drew Brees, Carli Lloyd, David Villa, Mia Hamm and Gretchen Bleiler.

But the New York-based company has signed Hailee Steinfeld as the face and spokesperson for its women’s activewear, with the 20-year-old set to appear in marketing and other activations.

"Signing the Hollywood mega-star is a significant milestone for Mission as Hailee will introduce and expose the brand to a more lifestyle-focused audience and fuel the brand's goal to be at the center of sports, science and style," the brand said in a statement.

"I’ve grown up in an innovation generation, where speed, style and science work together seamlessly, and Mission embodies the same philosophy," Steinfeld said in a statement.

According to Josh Shaw, founder and CEO for Mission, "As the first-ever Hollywood star to join the Mission brand, I couldn't be more excited to have Hailee join the team!"

The multitalented Steinfeld was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for True Grit (2010), won a Golden Globe for her role in The Edge of Seventeen (2016) and will reprise her role as Emily Junk from Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) in Pitch Perfect 3 (scheduled for release this December).

She has more than one million followers on her Facebook page and some 750,000 followers on Twitter.

The video of her song, "Starving," with Grey and Zedd, has has more than 159 million views on YouTube since it was released this past September. Her "Love Myself" video has topped 177 million YouTube views since August 2015.

"I'm really excited to work with Mission to not only help design and develop an incredible line of great looking activewear and athletic apparel, but also to bring a brand to market that meets all my active lifestyle needs," Steinfeld said.

"I love the fact that I don't have to compromise style and comfort in order to capitalize on the benefits of cutting edge temperature technologies in workout attire."

"As a high-performance athletic brand, we look for partners who embody our same ethos, our same focus and our same maniacal commitment to winning, and Hailee truly embodies each one of those qualities in her life," said  Shaw.

"Hailee is exceptional at her craft and truly an athlete in life at every level. From singing to acting to modeling, she lives an incredibly active, high-performance lifestyle and she knows the critical importance of balancing her work, life and fitness."

The new Mission women's apparel line includes training shirts, training shorts, sports bras, performance leggings, and a full range of tops, bottoms and compression styles.
