History Channel Film Honoring Roberto Clemente From LeBron James Uninterrupted

August 18, 2025: Roberto Clemente, one of the greatest players in MLB history, will have his life on and off the field honored in “Clemente,” a feature-length documentary executive produced by LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s multi-media company Uninterrupted.
“Clemente” will have its broadcast premiere on A&E’s The History Channel Sept. 23 (8 PM ET).
The film already received the 2024 Documentary Spotlight Award at SXSW.
“Clemente” celebrates the life, career, and legacy of Roberto Clemente, “a man who gave his all both on and off the field,” as described by History Channel.
“From his childhood in Puerto Rico and early years of struggle with the Pittsburgh Pirates, to becoming one of baseball’s most beloved and iconic players, to his tragic, untimely death in 1972, Clemente provides a comprehensive look into the Puerto Rican Hall of Famer and societal changemaker.”
“Roberto Clemente was one of the greatest baseball players of all time, and we are excited to bring his story to The History Channel with the premiere of this inspiring documentary,” Eli Lehrer, evp and head of programming, said via The History Channel.
“With Hispanic Heritage Month coming up (Sept. 15-Oct. 15), we hope generations old and new will find motivation in Clemente’s legacy. Whether you’re picking up a baseball glove or lending a service hand in your neighborhood, we all can learn something from this selfless individual.”
Clemente’s impact is still forceful more than 50 years after his death.
He died on Dec. 31 1972, when a Douglas DC-7 plane he had chartered to take and deliver emergency relief goods to the survivors of a massive earthquake in Nicaragua, crashed into the water off the coast of Isla Verde, Puerto Rico.
He spent his entire 18-year MLB career with the Pittsburgh Pirates and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 1973.
Since 2002, MLB has celebrated Roberto Clemente Day Sept. 15 to coincide with the start of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Via MLB, “Roberto Clemente Day was established by Major League Baseball to honor the legacy of the Hall of Famer and 15-time All-Star who died in a plane crash on New Year's Eve 1972 while attempting to deliver supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.
“In his honor, MLB annually presents the Roberto Clemente Award to recognize the player who best represents the game of Baseball through sportsmanship, community involvement and positive contributions, both on and off the field. Club nominees for this prestigious award are announced on Roberto Clemente Day each year.
The Roberto Clemente Award is given annually by MLB to a player who “demonstrates the values Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente displayed in his commitment to community and understanding the value of helping others. Each club nominates a player in September. The winner is selected from 30 nominees during the World Series. Originally the Commissioner's Award, the honor was named for Clemente in 1973.”
The Clemente Museum is located in a historic firehouse in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh. The Clemente Museum does not have walk-in hours but operates guided tours.
The Roberto Clemente Foundation has a “mission is to promote positive change and community engagement, honoring Roberto's legacy of faith, love and service, helping those less fortunate.”
“Uninterrupted was founded to foster stories of empowerment and inspire audiences to recognize their own potential and power,” Jamal Henderson, head of sports and culture, said via Uninterrupted.

“Clemente” was directed by David Altrogge and produced by Vinegar Hill, Uninterrupted and Vantage Pictures in association with Cookie Jar & a Dream Studios and APX Content Ventures.
