June 11, 2012: Procter & Gamble has been using the umbrella campaign, "Thank You, Mom," to bring together its brand and athlete endorsers in preparation for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
But in anticipation of Father's Day on June 20, P&G's Gillette is unveiling "Here's To Dad," which is an ode to father's played out to scenes of Roger Federer, Tyson Gay and Ryan Lochte preparing for and then in competition.
The 30-second spot breaks tonight during Game 6 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals on NBC and other programming, and then goes into regular rotation this week.
To support the commercial, Gillette is searching for the "greatest fatherly advice ever." People are being directed to the brand's social media destinations at Facebook and Twitter (#HeresToDad) between now and June 17 to "share your dad's words of wisdom."
In the spot, we see Federer preparing for a tennis match, Gay getting ready for a track and field event and Lochte prepping for a swimming competition.
A voiceover offers, "The man who coached me. Yelled at me. Supported me. The man who cheered me on. Slapped me on the back. Who stood by me. To the man who made me the man I am today. Here's to Dad. Gillette: The best a man can get."
The spot ends with each man in an apparent victory stance and then a shot of P&G's official Olympic logo with the text: "Here's to Dad." (See the full spot here.)
Lochte and Gay star in their own Gillette commercials, which are currently running.
P&G's "Thank You, Mom" creative will continue through the Olympics, which begin July 27.
