Coca Zero Begins March Madness Campaign

Feb. 11, 2009: Coca-Cola believes it's never too soon to get mad, as in March Madness, and is asking college basketball fans to join in by sharing photos and videos that could be incorporated into a 30-second TV spot that will premiere on CBS on April 6. Coke Zero, the "official fan refreshment of the NCAA," wants consumers and fans of NCAA March Madness to become part of a “Taste the Madness” effort by visiting www.tastethemadness.com. There, they can upload "their most animated and fanatical" videos and photos supporting their favorite NCAA college basketball team. Suggestions range from bouncing faster than Duke University’s Cameron Crazies to reciting your school’s fight song more passionately and intensely than thousands of University of Kansas fans chanting “Rock Chalk, Jayhawk. A Coke Zero panel of judges will determine, the best entries submitted to the Coke Zero "March Madabase" between now and the NCAA Men’s Final Four on April 4.

Coke Zero has also partnered with CBS college basketball studio analyst Seth Davis to help promote the "Taste the Madness" program. Former University of Notre Dame player (and former star with the NBA's Detroit Pistons) Bill Laimbeer, will represent the program in Detroit, where the 2009 national semifinals and championship game will be played at Ford Field. “NCAA basketball fans have loyalty and enthusiasm for their favorite teams that’s unmatched in any other sport,” Bill Kelly, svp, Coca-Cola Trademark Brands, Coca-Cola North America, said in a statement. “Just like Coke Zero set itself apart from other beverages with its combination of Real Coke Taste and Zero calories, the NCAA basketball fanatics we select for the ‘Taste the Madness’ vignette will stand out through their distinct displays of school spirit and unparalleled fan madness.” Coca-Cola is an official NCAA corporate champion.
