Canadian Olympic Hockey Team Has NHL All-Star Game Look

December 30, 2009: If the 2010 Canadian Olympic Hockey Team has a decidedly NHL All-Star Game feel to it in Vancouver this February, that's because the squad is loaded with NHL all-stars. Given that the league will not have an All-Star Game this season due to the Winter Olympics, it makes sense that the Canadian team - as well as the US Olympic Team to be named on Jan. 1 during NBC's telecast of the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic - is filled with players who otherwise would have been wearing All-Star uniforms.

Among those players leading Canada's quest for gold in a year in which it hosts the Games are Joe Thornton of the San Jose Sharks, who leads the NHL in scoring (as of Dec. 30); Martin Brodeur, goaltender for the New Jersey Devils, who is the all-time NHL leader in shutouts, wins and games played; and Sidney Crosby, of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who was not part of the Canadian team in 2006 and will be making his first Olympic appearance.

The NHL will suspend its schedule from Feb. 15-Feb. 28 for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

2010 Canadian Olympic Hockey Team Roster

Goalies: Martin Brodeur-New Jersey Devils, Marc-Andre Fleury-Pittsburgh Penguins, Roberto Luongo-Vancouver Canucks

Defenders: Dan Boyle-San Jose Sharks, Drew Doughty-Los Angeles Kings, Duncan Keith-Chicago Blackhawks, Scott Niedermayer-Anaheim Ducks, Chris Pronger-Philadelphia Flyers, Brent Seabrook,-Chicago Blackhawks, Shea Weber- Nashville Predators
