Winter Olympics Marketing Partners Gathering For Sochi 100 Day Countdown

September 26, 2013: The 2014 Winter Olympics are scheduled to begin Feb. 7 in Sochi, Russia. Counting backward, 100 days out would be Oct. 29, 2013.

On that day, the U.S. Olympic Committee said it would begin its official countdown to the Winter Games with an event to be attended by more than a dozen marketing partners as well as Olympic legends and hopefuls.

The USOC's 100 Day Countdown, which also will launch the Road to Sochi Tour presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance, is scheduled to take place in New York's Times Square.

Among the official sponsors that will participate inn the 100 Day Countdown are AT&T, Budweiser, Chobani, Coca-Cola, Folgers (Smucker’s), The Hartford, Hilton, Jif (Smucker’s), Kellogg's, Liberty Mutual Insurance, United and Smucker’s.

Including in the Road to Sochi Tour presented by Liberty Mutual Insurance are Coca-Cola, AT&T, Budweiser, Chobani, Folgers (Smucker’s), Hilton, Jif (Smucker’s), Liberty Mutual Insurance, United and Smucker’s.

The USOC’s first 100 Day Countdown preceded the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games; its second came before the London 2012 Summer Games. USOC said that the 2012 event was attended by more than 170,000 visitors and "resulted in more than 150 million media impressions."

“It’s truly an honor for us to bring the Road to Sochi Tour to Olympic and Paralympic fans across the country starting on Oct. 29,” Paul Alexander, chief communications officer for Liberty Mutual Insurance, said in a statement. “Team USA’s Olympians and Paralympians deserve our support and admiration for their dedication to represent our country at the highest level of competition in the world. They are the embodiment of the Olympic spirit and inspirations to us all.”

The Winter Games are scheduled for Feb. 7-23, 2014, airing in the U.S. on NBC.

The event is scheduled to include a ski and snowboard ramp; an ice rink for curling, figure skating, speedskating and hockey demonstrations; and the Flying Ace All-Stars performing ski and snowboard tricks on trampolines.

Among the more than 40 athletes expected to participate in autograph sessions, demos and on-stage interviews, include Sochi 2014 hopefuls Kelly Clark (snowboarding), Sarah Hendrickson (ski jumping), Steven Holcomb (bobsled), Hannah Kearney (freestyle skiing), Ted Ligety (alpine skiing), Taylor Lipsett (sled hockey), Evan Ly (figure skating), Elana Meyers (bobsled), Tom Wallisch (freestyle skiing (slopestyle) and Torin Yater-Wallace (freestyle skiing).

After New York, the Road to Sochi Tour is scheduled to make the following stops in 2013-14: Minneapolis (Nov. 2-3), Dallas (Dec. 7-8), Boston (Jan. 10-12), Las Vegas (Jan. 18), Atlanta (Jan. 25-26), Los Angeles (Feb. 7), Chicago (Feb. 19-20) and New York (Feb. 23 in Grand Central Terminal).
