• The Professional Baseball Agreement between MLB and minor league teams expires at the end of the 2020 season. But if a new MLB proposal were to become reality, more than three dozen cities with affiliated minor league teams will lose those teams a year from now and thousands of minor league players will be out of work as well. • Bluberi Gaming has signed a deal with WWE to develop a series of licensed slot games featuring WWE Superstars and Legends. Among those to be featured include John Cena, Triple H, Becky Lynch, Roman Reigns and Ronda Rousey. The first WWE series of slot games is scheduled to hit casinos October 2020.

• HarperCollins Publishers said it has acquired world rights to Back, the first memoir authored by Tiger Woods. According to Woods, “This book is my definitive story. It’s in my words and expresses my thoughts.” A publication date was not given.

• Halloween this year is Oct. 31, and retailers, marketers and consumers are ready for another season of trick-or-treat. Total spend on Halloween 2019 is expected to reach $8.8 billion according to the National Retail Federation, Washington, DC. Full story here.

Long-Distance Runners: Asics Returns To Sponsorship Role With L.A. Marathon

April 10, 2019: When it comes to the Los Angeles Marathon, what goes around the 26.22 mile distance comes around.

Conqur Endurance Group has signed a five-year deal naming sports performance brand Asics the “official footwear and apparel partner and presenting sponsor” for the Los Angeles Marathon, beginning with the next event, scheduled for March 8, 2020.

Asics returns to a role it had as the event’s title sponsor in 2014-15.

Skechers Performance took over as presenting sponsor from 2016 through 2019 Marathon last month.

Financial terms of the Asics’ pact were not released.

Asics and Conqur said they would re-launch their alliance in January 2020, beginning with the Pasadena Half Marathon,

The renewed union with the Los Angeles Marathon is part of Asics’ strategy to build a “heritage deeply rooted in running.

The brand said it is “making significant investments beginning this year to ensure it reclaims the top industry status.

In addition to the 2020 Los Angeles Marathon, Asics said it would expand its partnership in Southern California by becoming an official partner for the Pasadena Half Marathon at the Rose Bowl, The LA Big 5K, and Santa Monica Classic 5K and 10K.

Asics recently signed multi-year sponsorship deals with female distance runners Emma Bates and Allie Kieffer.

Asics will also look to support Conqur's extensive youth running and community programs.

"Our partnership with Conqur to become the presenting sponsor of the Los Angeles Marathon solidifies our commitment to the run category," Koichiro Kodama, CEO of ASICS North America, said via the Irvine, Calif.-based company, with global corporate headquarters in Japan.

"Asics is back and more dedicated than ever to drive our brand forward as we build off of the very foundation we were created on — performance running. We are honored to have this opportunity once again and look forward to reconnecting with our core audience to bring the west coast community together to celebrate this great sport."

The multi-year agreement will be supported with “significant brand integration, on-site and in-store event activations, digital and social content, broadcast integrations and online retail promotions.”

Leading into the 2020 Los Angeles Marathon, Asics said it would launch a collection of limited edition products, featuring footwear, apparel and accessories for the 2020 race. The collection will be available at Asics Web site, select Asics retail stores and the 2020 Los Angeles Marathon Expo.

Current Los Angles Marathon partners also include Big 5 Sporting Goods, Muscle Milk, Clif, Turkish Airlines, Hyundai and Corona Premier.

The Los Angeles Marathon begins at Dodger Stadium, runs through Los Angeles and ends at Ocean Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd.

According to  Murphy Reinschreiber, Conqur's COO, ”For the 30th Anniversary of the Los Angeles Marathon (in 2015), Asics lit-up L.A. by spotlighting every mile of the Stadium to the Sea course.

“It's fitting that we're reconnected with Asics in time for the Marathon's 35th Anniversary race on March 8, 2020.”
