Back In Court: Andre Agassi Returns As Cover Star, Player In 2K's 'Top Spin 4'

Agassi gets covered with Nadal, Williams.January 18, 2011: 2K Sports, which last year brought NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan out of retirement for the cover of and participation in its NBA 2K11 videogame, is taking the same route with its tennis title, Top Spin 4. The company said that tennis icon Andre Agassi would be on the cover of its upcoming release alongside Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams, as well as being included within the game's extensive tennis action.

According to 2K, is the first time in a decade that Agassi will be featured in an interactive entertainment experience. Top Spin 4 is scheduled for release on March 15.

Agassi, a former No. 1 ranked player in the world and winner of eight Grand Slam singles tournaments and 17 ATP Master Series tournaments, will star on a roster that 2K is calling Top Spin's "largest roster in the franchise to date."  The videogame will also feature such current stars as Nadal, Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Ana Ivanovic, Andy Roddick, James Blake, Caroline Wozniacki and Jelena Jankovic.

In addition to Agassi, other legends in Top Spin 4 include Bjorn Borg, Boris Becker, Ivan Lendel, Jim Courier and Pete Sampras. Agassi, who retired from active play in 2006, will be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in July.

Top Spin 4 does a phenomenal job capturing the unique authenticity and highly competitive skills of these 25 world-class athletes,” Jason Argent, vp-marketing for 2K Sports, said in a statement. “When playing Top Spin 4, we wanted consumers to feel they are playing more than a tennis game, we wanted them to feel like they are in a world title prize fight.”

According to Agassi, “Tennis has been in my life for as long as I can remember. I hope that with Top Spin 4 players can enjoy the sport as much as I have.”

"We wanted consumers to feel they are playing more than a tennis game, we wanted them to feel like they are in a world title prize fight.”

To commemorate this fourth entry in the Top Spin series, 2K Sports is offering an exclusive vintage Andre Agassi playable character for free in North America only when gamers pre-order and reserve a copy of Top Spin 4 at GameStop. (Full details here.) Top Spin 4 will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation and Wii. 2K Sports is a division of Take-Two.
