"My Time Has Come": NBA MVP Durant Finally Gets His Video Game Cover

May 7, 2014: One day after he received his first NBA MVP, Kevin Durant was awarded another first honor: 2K said that the Oklahoma City Thunder all-star forward would make his solo debut as a video game cover athlete on NBA 2K15.

Durant was on the cover of EA Sports' NBA Elite 11 in 2010, but the game was cancelled due to inoperable technical difficulties. "My time has come," Durant said in a statement regarding his 2K cover.

NBA 2K15 is scheduled to hit retail in October.

“We’re continually challenging ourselves to align the NBA 2K franchise with the best of this generation, and Kevin Durant brings one of the NBA’s greatest into our stable of kings,” Alfie Brody, vp-marketing for 2K, said in a statement. “Our goal is to consistently bring an unmatched experience for the millions of fans that play the NBA 2K series, while paralleling the NBA’s evolution and growth year-over-year.”

Support is expected to include TV, print, Internet and social media. 2K set up a Twitter hash tag, #YourTimeHasCome, to unveil Durant's cover and to interact with fans and consumers.

Durant, a four-time NBA scoring champion, five-time all-star and the Rookie of the Year in 2007-08, is currently seeking his first NBA championship. He is represented by Jay-Z's Roc Nation Sports.

“I’m honored to be selected for the cover of NBA 2K,” said Durant is a statement. “I’ve been an avid fan and player of NBA 2K since I was a kid, and being selected as the sole cover athlete of NBA 2K15 is an amazing accomplishment at this point of my life.”

Durant's marketing deals also include Nike, Sprint, BBVA Compass and SkullCandy.

Durant earns about $12-$14 million in endorsements, according to industry analysts.

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K studio, NBA 2K15 is not yet rated by the ESRB. NBA 2K15 is scheduled for release on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on Oct. 7 in North America and Oct. 10.
